Making a distinctive difference – Medela Freestyle Breast Pump

There are many products available on the market nowadays that boast of making moms secrete breast milk efficiently and coming with as less discomfort as possible, but Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is the one that truly made a distinctive difference.

Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is unique because it is a double electric breast pump that can be used every day without compromising its lifespan. It is designed in such a way that it is durable enough for several times of breast pumping on each and every single day. In other words, it makes a great improvement of changing the impression that modern breast pumps usually cannot last very long for higher number of usage.

Portable and possible for night time use

I can easily carry the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump along with me while traveling on either short or long distance trips because of its lightweight motor. It also includes a digital display which contains a timer, a memory button and a backlight. As a result, I can still pump milk during night time.

Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is extremely portable. I can pump with it inside cars, airplane bathrooms, closets and public bathrooms. It is also cordless so that I can easily pump without being attached to a wall. I can even do housework and other things while pumping with the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump.

What do the Deluxe Set comes with?

This double electric breast pump also includes a rechargeable battery. This rechargeable battery can last for three hourscontinuously so that I can take it along with me and use it while traveling.

The set of double electric breast pump contains two sizes of Personal Fit breast-shields that provide comfort to moms. All these things can be packed together within a portable microfiber bag, which has been specifically designed to carry my Freestyle breast pump parts.

2-Phase Expression Technology

Just like the other Medela breast pumps, it also makes use of the 2-phase expression technology that is clinically tested and proven to produce 18% more milk in a shorter period of time. There are two phases of breastfeeding—the stimulation phase in which the baby just sucks milk to stimulate more milk production and the expression phase / milk let-down phase that enables baby to slowly suck the breast so that the milk could flow out freely.

All Medela breast pumps contain no toxic substances such as BPA, which can cause chronic illnesses to the babies.

What I do not like about the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump

However, the suction power is not as strong as the other Medela breast pumps, for example the Pump in Style. Also, when the battery is down to one bar, the product loses suction and the battery takes a whole 24 hours to be fully charged. This has caused me a bit of the inconvenience to wait for a few hours even to get it barely usable while being connected with power cable.

It is also hard to be cleaned because it is so flimsy as it comprises of many parts. Moreover, after washing with water, it takes a long time to get the parts dry.

In summary, Medela Freestyle Breast Pump Deluxe Set is still a good product to buy. This breast pump stands out from many other models because it is so compact, portable and comes with the powerful advantages those electrically powered ones usually provide. Get yours here now!

  • Hi, as I understand this breast pump is an electric one, not manual, I always thought, and my midwives advised so, that using a manual breast pump is better for the mother, although it might be more difficult and more time-consuming.

I've used a breast pump when my little ones were newborn, but a different make. I like that Medela Freestyle is a double breast pump. In that way it may help mums use it on both breast at the same time and save a little of that so precious time. Is that possible?

    Nice colour as well.

    All the best.

    • Of course, that is absolutely possible! It won't save just little, but actually tremendous tonnes of precious time are saved and you cut your pumping fatigue while increasing your production of milk. Cheers~ ;D

  • Wow I have this exact pump. It was given to me before my discharge from the hospital since my insurance paid for it. I haven't used it yet. I plan on starting soon seeing how I will be going back to work.

I am so happy you wrote about it. I have used the manual version and liked it. I this electric version will be even better.

    • Hi there... Glad to hear that you were given this exact pump sponsored by your insurance. Let us know your personal experience after using this pump. Cheers~ ;D

  • Hey paige,

My wife exclusively used Medela pumps. They definitely work great, and there are some sweet accessories.

The one thing we did not like however were the plastic bottles. We opted to use glass bottles for our baby...we kind of take going green to the max.

Great review ...breastfeeding is so important for a child's development and women should have awesome tools to facilitate that process.

    • Hey there, John... Thank you for dropping by and sharing your great idea here. Definitely, going green is the way to go nowadays. Glad to know that you are willing to opt for the greener glass bottles despite their higher cost. I understand that for our next generation's benefits, it's surely money worth spending! Yes, John, agreed with you that nursing mamas should have awesome tools to facilitate their breastfeeding journey. Thanks for your great thought...

  • Hi there!
Thanks for this wealth of knowledge! I feel like this pump could be perfect for me, since I have a very"on the go" lifestyle. Would you say that this is the easiest and most portable pump you have found or are their similar portable pumps it could be compared to? Thanks for your input!

  • Nice review. I liked the comparison graphic and the images in general. You'd think that they would make the battery charge faster especially now with better technology. I can understand a couple hours but a whole day seems unreal especially at that price point. And to add insult to injury the suction also depends on the battery power.

I remember my boobs got so sore when they got full and would soak my breast pads even when my baby was feeding. Are the battery life and breast pump suction problems common in double, electric breast pumps in general or just this one?

    • Hi Marlinda, thank you for sharing with us here your valuable experience and feedback. I believe these problems found only off this pump. Perhaps Spectra Baby USA S1 PLUS Double Breast Pump can be a better alternative, since its recharging time needs only half of the time taken by Medela Freestyle Breast Pump. Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • My son is almost 5 now so this stage was a long time ago relatively. But yes I do remember those days. It is a very special time. And as parents especially first time parents it is a very busy, stressful, and unsure time. So anything we can do to make it easier is great.
My wife started out with a regular pump. Then she went with an electric one. They are better for the lady I think. I have never seen one as nice as this. Wow

  • I loved my Medela Breast Pump! I think I was partial to it because that's what I had to use in the hospital while my son was in intensive care for the first few nights. Medela can be a little pricey, but I think they are by far one of the best on the market. It's worth noting (in case women don't know) in the U.S. you can get your breast pump for free due to the changes in our healthcare system.

  • I have tried using this before (rented), and I ended up buying a Medela PISA instead. The motor of the Freestyle doesn't seem to be as powerful as the PISA, and the suction is not as effective. When I was trying to relactate, I used the different extraction phases, and I didn't get a single drop using the Freestyle. I am not sure if it's me or the pump, but I sure got some milk using the PISA.

    • Hi Pitin, thank you so much for sharing with us your experience of using both different models of breast pumps from Medela. Though it's rather a negative experience on Medela Freestyle Breast Pump, it's surely helpful for fellow moms visiting here. Cheers~

  • Nice review. It's a long time since I was breast feeding my babies (they're teenagers now) but I'm so pleased whenever I know a new mother has chosen to breast feed. Anything that helps her continue and have a successful experience is a worthwhile product. I wish it had been available for me! Well done.
